LIFE CYCLE - Adult female Forbes' Tree Cricket - Oecanthus forbesi - Female
Bong Recreational Area, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, USA
August 30, 2008
Three females hatched from the same Goldenrod stem. This is a sibling to the hatchling shown in the previous photo of this series -- both hatched from the same line of oviposited eggs on the stem. It does, however, confirm the ID as Black-horned Tree Cricket.

Note
After work by researchers who analyzed songs of tree crickets in multiple states, it is now generally accepted that greenish tree crickets with dark on the antennae, head, pronotum and/or limbs - that are west of Ohio - are Forbes' tree crickets.

Both species can have very little black. With a lack of black, in some areas they can easily be confused with Prairie tree cricket. Prairie's have not yet been documented in Wisconsin. This female was ID's as she mated with Forbes' tree cricket males.
