Common Checkered Skipper - Pyrgus communis

Common Checkered Skipper - Pyrgus communis
Woolaroc Museum and Ranch, Osage County, Oklahoma, USA
October 11, 2008
Size: approx. 1.5 in
I thought this might be some sort of checkerspot, but I'm not sure what it is now! Any help would be appreciated!

Checkered Skipper
I'm not sure which Checkered Skippers are flying in your state now and I can't get a good look at the dorsal of this one due to the angle, but I would suggest Common Checkered Skipper (Pyrgus communis). I know this one flies in Oklahoma.

Fooled again!
Thanks, Bob! I have a common checkered skipper in my collection, but didn't realize that they could appear this blue! The one in my file appears to be brown. Checking the other photos for the common checkered skipper, I can see that you are correct.
Thanks again!
DJ

Checkered Skipper
I believe this one is a male. The females appear more brown so you may have a matched set. :) The males also have longer hair on their abdomen.
