Woolly Aphid - Eriosoma
Norwottuck Rail Trail, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA

Size: ~4mm
Woolly aphids congregating in the crevices near the roots of a birch. Individuals were descending the tree and joining clusters. Perhaps this is an overwintering behavior?
