Hydroporus sp. - Hydroporus tristis

Hydroporus sp. - Hydroporus tristis
Medford, (~25 miles east of Philadelphia, PA) Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
June 28, 2008
Size: ~3.2mm
Using Dr. Epler's keys and others, I believe this to be a species of Hydroporus, and probably from the oblitus group (after Fall 1923). I note the absence of oblique epipleurae carina, and the metacoxal process almost straight medially and sinuate laterally. Corrections welcome :)

Moved from Hydroporus.

H. tristis...
is the closest I can get with the keys from Larson...The MCZ images also are very similar. the H. oblitus group has been revised and is now moved to a separate genus- Hydrocolus; the group as a whole has more angled metacoxal lobes compared to Hydroporus, where the hind margins are straight, as in this specimen.

Thanks again Tim,
now that you're on board, I'll try to get some additional Dytiscids posted which have been laying around here waiting to have their pictures taken.
