Wingless black cricket - Gryllus Wingless black cricket - Gryllus

some kind of
field cricket in the genus gryllus.

The reason he is wingless is because he is still a nymph. he will not get wings until he becomes an adult after 4 or 5 molts

No wing buds?
Does this mean there are no external buds at any pre-adult stage?

This is a young nymph
There are 5 molts that they go through (or instars) and each time they molt, they begin to show more developed legs and wings (and females get an ovipositor). So this one is just really young.

any more into detail?
Could you go anymore into detail than gryllus? I have a few of these and am curious about what specie they belong to

No idea lol
I had no idea until now that there are different kinds of field crickets... They all look the same to me, and I've heard someone else here say that some can only be separated by their song
