Mystery - Merope tuber

Mystery - Merope tuber
Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
August 12, 2008
Size: 1 cm? not sure
I found this accidentally while photographing a salamander in my uncle's back yard. Probably a dipteran, but anyone else have any thoughts as to what it might be?

wow is all i can say
dipterans are their cousins indeed

It is neat, isn't it?
Pattern on wings reminds me of a printed circuit board.

Meropeidae: Merope tuber
A scorpionfly.

Awww!
This just makes me more disappointed that this was the best of all the photos I took of it. D:>

yes,
this relic of yours easily makes top ten most amazing insects i've seen on BG... if not in my life [and trust me, i've seen my fair share of]

Weather
It was at night & it was raining, so both of those together were reasons why I was more inclined to pass over it without much thought. Bummer!
