Orb Weaver Female - Araneus andrewsi - female

Orb Weaver Female - Araneus andrewsi - Female
Groveland Ca, Tuolumne County, California, USA
October 20, 2008
Size: 1/2 in.
I believe this spider is the offspring of an orb weaver that lived in nearly the same spot two years ago. Her name was Ursula, and became quite friendly, coming out to greet me when I went outside, and also allowing me to pick her up and pet her without being scared or defensive. She disappeared one day, and it's been two years since I've had any orb weavers in this spot. Elvira is not quite as friendly, but I think she is absolutely beautiful. I would like to know the specific name of this spider, if there is one, and not just 'orb weaver'.

The genus is likely Araneus,
but we don't know the species. Maybe Lynette will recognize this one.

Araneus andrewsi
all those little white hairs, no visible white markings, and those prominent 'shoulders' what do you think of
