Came to the light at night. Somewhere around 4mm. Too small to be Camponotus pennsylvanicus? Gender?

It's a male... probably Lasius (Lasius claviger or L. umbratus.)

 
Maybe not..
Could be the common L. neoniger, but males are difficult with the primarily worker-based taxonomy of ants.
