I'd like to know what this and is and what it's carrying.

Myrmicinae.
Subfamily ID is about the best I can do. It is carrying a seed, which suggests it is one of the "harvester ants," but that still includes several genera. Moving to subfamily page so experts can find it and offer a more specific ID.
