Which Cicindela? - Cicindela purpurea

Which Cicindela? - Cicindela purpurea
Antelope Island, Davis County, Utah, USA
October 26, 2008
Since this does not appear to be Cicindela oregona, the only other one of these I have seen in Utah, I'm at a loss to know what this one is. Does anyone know? Could it be a saltmarsh cicindela since it's living at the Great Salt Lake?

Moved from Cicindela.

i agree
This looks like C. purpurea to me.

It sure looks like Cicindela
It sure looks like Cicindela purpurea (Cowpath Tiger Beetle), although I'm not sure about the race or if there are closely related species in that part of the world (I don't have my guide book with me). Anyone else have any ideas?

I hope we get more input...
It looks like the purpurea has been seen out West. The Cicindela I've seen before have been at higher elevations (mountain lakes), so these at Antelope Island kind of surprised me since it is more desert habitat.

Possibly Cicindela purpurea a
Possibly Cicindela purpurea audubonii. Its unfortunate that you don't have a picture showing the side. You would expect there to be a purplish-blue margin to the elytra on the sides. To be absolutely certain you would have to have the beetle in hand and run it through the key.

Thanks.
Thanks for your input. I wish I could have gotten closer to them for better photos, but they were having none of that. I'll look for them again next year, I guess.
