Schistocerca americana
Last (probably 5th) instar nymph. By the looks, about to shed skin. Probably male, but I can't tell for certain the gender.

Judging by the color of the trees, looks like a bad time to still be a nymph. Maybe the twig was warm? Looks like he's hugging it really tight.
