practice, practice, practice
Thanks Tim.

My interests these days lie mostly in the very small to minute range. So I end up pointing 80-90% of the insects I curate. You just need a relatively fresh specimen, a good set of tools and practice. Oh, and a relatively steady hand to use the minuten tool to tease out the antennae and legs once the specimen is mounted. All this work is done through the scope of course.
