Sleeping ant colony - Camponotus pennsylvanicus - Female
Pennsylvania, USA
This colony has started to go to sleep for the winter. We have already had a few good frosts, and temps sometimes get well below freezing during the night.
Their larvae have stopped development, and the ants have sealed themselves inside the nest and have stopped foraging
