oribatid mite
This looks like a species in the oribatid mite family Galumnidae. Note the large lateral pteromorphs that fold over and protect the legs when the mite is disturbed.

nice crisp images of this minute bug, Scott! Thanks for photographing some of these oft-neglected arachnids - Bug Guide is relatively weak on mites and you are really helping to strengthen this part of BG! I'm sure one of our experts will help with the ID...

I have more to process. I'm combing the leaf litter for any small critter that I can find. There are many many different kinds of mites! LOL, I just noticed that you can see my index finger and the front of my lens/flash reflected in its shell.
