Basilica Spider - Mecynogea lemniscata

Basilica Spider - Mecynogea lemniscata
Cary, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
July 10, 2005
I almost exclusively see this species in Holly shrubs around this area. They're very common, I counted at least 5 in a small shrub in my yard. The web is very intricate-- with a "dome" shape. The patterns appear to be fairly unique, so hopefully that means it's easily identifiable :)

Basilica spider.
