One Big Fly - Helophilus fasciatus - Male
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA

Size: 20mm
This fly is huge. That leaf is 42mm x 20mm. I marked the fly's location relative to the leaf lobes and measured 20mm. This fly could be big enough to be a Cicada Killer Killer. No? Then please tell me what it is. I could not find it in any of my three generalist guides. Thank You.

Helophilus fasciatus (female)
One of the most widespread and conspicuous Hover Flies (Syrphidae).
The Cicada Killer is no fly, but a solitary Wasp (Ordrer Hymenoptera).

Thanks for guiding me in the right direction. BTW implication by "cicada killer killer," is this fly looks big enough to kill a Cicada Killer. A little Monday morning, tongue-in-cheek :)
