Unknown Beetle - Deltochilum gibbosum

Unknown Beetle - Deltochilum gibbosum
Cave Spring, slightly burrowed in the ground under a birck, Floyd County, Georgia, USA
November 11, 2008
Size: 4cm legs out 25mm legs in
It appears to be a beetle of some kind. When I found it I thought it was dead, so I picked it up and brought it inside to wash it off. I was washing it off with hot water and it came to life. I am curious to find out what it is. And it stank when I smelled of it before I washed it off. Still does a little. And it isn't moving much now that it has been washed off.

Dung Beetle?
I was looking through pictures of beetles and it looks a lot like some of the dung beetles. I am not 100% sure though, so I would still very much appreciate an ID.
