Spider in Upper Moapa Valley, Southern Nevada - Argiope trifasciata

Spider in Upper Moapa Valley, Southern Nevada - Argiope trifasciata
Upper Moapa Valley, Nevada, Clark County, Nevada, USA
September 12, 2008
This does not seem to be a common spider in this area. This spider was found near a spring refered to as Jackass Spring, though not much open water.

I linked the three images
assuming this is a single specimen, judging by the identical remarks on each. Please indicate if this is not correct.

Looks to be
one of the Argiope - guessing Banded, but that's just a guess from a ventral view. Dorsal image would firm up ID

I agree....
Specimens like this one, where even the body shape is different from the 'norm,' lend support to the idea there may be more than one species involved. Moving to A. trifasciata for now.
