Spicebush Chrysalis - Papilio troilus

Spicebush Chrysalis - Papilio troilus
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
July 30, 2008
Once I've collected a few caterpillars, I bring the pl*nt indoors. When the cats are about ready to pupate, I put them in the "nursery." I thought I had miscounted my caterpillars until a couple weeks later. This little renegade got out of the pot, climbed the wall and attached itself.

Anybody who has reared butterflies, knows where this is going. A few days later, I finally found Scooter hiding behind a painting.
