Title
The midge family was originally classified by Linnaeus as a form of crane fly. Chironomus plumosus was Tipula plumosa until Meigen classified midges in 1800 and 1803. (He did it twice under two different names, causing much debate in the mid-20th century over the proper name to use.)

This is some good closeup photography, btw, and if it were of a male I could give you a species since this isn't one of the genera where you need genital closeups.
