Splendid Earth Boring Beetle - Geotrupes splendidus

Splendid Earth Boring Beetle - Geotrupes splendidus
Fort Custer Recreation Area, Augusta, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA
Found dead in some sand near a lake. The angle the picture was taken at greatly changed the coloration, the lighting changed very little.

Looks to me like a Geotrupes
Looks to me like a Geotrupes or something in that vein. It's not a scarabaeinae since the scutellum is visible. There are members who can give you a good ID on pretty beetle. If I was forced to guess, I'd say Geotrupes splendidus. I wish I had one in any case, I'm rather fond of Geotrupids.
