My wife fould this little bug in a supermarket in San Jose. This bug stayed right on some vegetable. She took it home and I shot these photos. I think this is a leaf bettle but don't konw which kind.

I think you mean
0.5cm rather than mm

Did she find it near the cucumbers...
This is a Spotted Cucumber Beetle (Diabrotica undecimpunctata) or either the Western Spotted Cucumber Beetle (Diabrotica undecimpunctata undecimpunctata) both of which are members of the leaf beetle family.



I had to crop your second image. It is a great shot but it shows more detail when the image is cropped to show less background and more beetle.

Western.
All-black legs would indicate the western subspecies. Great images!
