grub - Strategus antaeus

grub - Strategus antaeus
Pinellas County, Florida, USA
November 29, 2008
Size: body 3 inches
Is this a rhino beetle grub?
He was HUGE!! :o) The size of my thumb....easy.
Thought about keeping him to see what it turned into, but I decided to put him back in his hole.

Matt, Looks like Strate
Matt,

Looks like Strategus ("ok beetle"). Possibly antaeus if it was found in sandy soil (and not in or under a rotten log or in a compost pile).

Steven

I'm ok, you're an ox beetle:-)
LOL! I think you meant to say "ox beetle" larva. I'll move to the species page.

Thanks Steven.
It actually was under a fallen rotting log. Sandy soil is all we have in Florida. :o)
