Culex nigripalpus - female

Culex nigripalpus - Female
New Orleans, Uptown in house, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA
November 28, 2008
Size: ~5mm
This shot is of the pinned specimen, and the inset is an identical shot with the light source angled to show the blue iridescence. The metallic blue and gold is pretty spectacular, but only if the light is just right. Otherwise I'd say this is an extremely drab mosquito.
