Shieldbug - Elasmostethus cruciatus

Shieldbug - Elasmostethus cruciatus
Calgary, Parkdale, Alberta, Canada
June 14, 2008
Size: 11 mm
Swept from foliage at some height from a tree; Elasmosthethus or Elasmucha?

Elasmostethus cruciatus.
Not in the Pentatomidae family, though.

was this recently revised?
I have a copy of your field guide and it includes this genus in Pentatomidae...

Acanthosomatidae.
It states in my book that some authorities place these two genera in the Acanthosomatidae. Same thing applies to the Scutellaridae. It just depends on what authority you reference. European entomologists tend to split everything, and here at Bugguide we have adopted the "splitters" classification. Might be just as well since the Pentatomidae includes so many genera already!
