Thanks again! I observed some of these also on Mt. Pinos (in Brewer's Lupine, as well as in Lotus nevadensis, August '05), in the western Transverse Ranges.

Yes.
Definitely a Megachilid. You can tell by the enlarged head and the presence of 2 (not three) submarginal cells in the wing. Nice photos.
