Wooly Apple Aphid - Eriosoma lanigerum

Wooly Apple Aphid - Eriosoma lanigerum
Richards Rd, just W. of Prosser, Benton County, Washington, USA
October 13, 2007
Size: 3mm or so
We've had an explosion of these guys in the last couple years in the orchard - mostly on "sucker" shoots. This is an example of the stem-feeding form; they look less hairy if they're feeding on roots.

Note:
Woolly is spelled with two l's; I know because I misspelled it for years before I was corrected!
Sincerelly ;-)
