Fly 2072 - Psectrotanypus dyari

Fly 2072 - Psectrotanypus dyari
Pymatuning Lake, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 21, 2008
Size: ~4 mm
Midge, something in Tanypodinae perhaps?

Psectrotanypus dyari
Psectrotanypus dyari(1), female.

It is a common, widespread species with a distinct wing pattern. The picture keys to that species in Roback(2). The colors are and pattern are slightly off but that may be due to lack of effort in describing the differences of the female. The picture in Marshall(3) is a good match and shows the same small discrepancies with the description of the male.
