Large Fly - Calliphora
Brighton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada
October 7, 2008
Size: 1/2 inch app.
There were several of these very large flies on a stinkhorn mushroom in the woods.

female Calliphora
Terry Whitworth det.

Moved from Blow Flies.

A (somewhat) educated guess: Archytas
However, thorax usually has more bristle.

Caveat: I'm not an expert.

Large Fly
Thanks Ron, but I think this was a much larger fly. The picture makes it look as if the thorax was silver, but in the shade the fly was all black.

Calliphoridae

Good tip
Thanks, Matthias.
