Spinybacked Orbweaver and the Honey Bee - Gasteracantha cancriformis

Spinybacked Orbweaver and the Honey Bee - Gasteracantha cancriformis
Boca Raton, Florida, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
December 12, 2008
This Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) flew into the Spinybacked Orbweaver's web and was unable to free itself. Eventually the bee broke free from the web while in the grip of the spider and while they were both suspended by a single thread, they both spun like a top on steroids as the bee flapped its wings. The spider never lost its grip on the bee.
