Linne's Cicada? - Tibicen linnei

Linne's Cicada? - Tibicen linnei
Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia, USA
September 1, 2008
This one came to a porch light while I was taking pictures of moths. I thought it might also be a silver-bellied cicada, but I know very little about cicadas, so I don't trust my identification.

Tibicen linnei FEMALE (I think you'r 1st/gut feeling was right!)
Go with your gut! This cicada is not T. davisi!

Females of T. pruinosus west of the Appalchians usually have well developed pruinose spots at the base of the abdomen - this one DOES NOT!...therefore, I agree you are probably right on with T. linnei!

Tibicen davisi
A smaller southeastern cicada with a very broad head, the eyes standing out well from the sides of the thorax.
