Eyed/ Blind click beetle comparison - Alaus

The blind click beetle, Alaus myops, is above. It didn't particularly like being handled and decided to play dead. Eyed click beetle, Alaus oculatus, is below. I didn't realize they were different species until I had them both together. Neither was harmed in the staging of this photo.

And you found both at the Nature Center
on the same day? Great work!

 
Yep...
A. myops was found on the side of the building, so I moved him to the back picnic table where the A. oculatus was hanging out. The kids in my day camp group thought they were really cool.
