National Audubon Society Field Guide to Insects and Spiders

FYI

I was wondering if this was the same book as "The Audobon Society Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders" by Milne and Milne, which is a taller, narrower book with a tough black plastic (pseudo-leather) cover. Though the name, size, and cover differ...they have the same ISBN, so I guess they're the same books.

I have loved all the books in this series, but I have found lately that the information covered in the audubon books is not only incomplete but in some cases innacurrate.

better than most Audubon series guides

The authors have done an excellent job of picking out insects (and a few spiders) that are commonly encountered and/or notable. The text is well-written, and has some details on taxonomy and life history, unusual for a field guide. All-in-all, a cut above the average for a mass-market field guide.

I agree

I agree that this is a good field guide. Be aware that it is dated, so some of the taxonomic information is no longer considered current. Also, the authors simply made up many common names, and so in the Dragonflies section for example, the common names are not the ones now in use by the Dragonfly Society of the Americas.
