Cool creepy spider - Ummidia

Cool creepy spider - Ummidia
Sandhills Natural Area near Butler, Taylor County, Georgia, USA
September 18, 2008
Size: ~ 1"

Ummidia sp.
Everyone's correct about it being a Cork-lid Trapdoor Spider...but to narrow it down even more, I believe it belongs to the Genus Ummidia. The saddle-shaped depression on the third pair of legs appears to be somewhat visible in your shot, and serves to provide further evidence to this specimen belonging to Ummidia.

....
Looks like a Cork-lid trapdoor spider of some sort to me but wait for an expert.
Take a look here while you wait.

Wow - what a cool group of spiders! I think we may have found other species of this group at our home in Monroe county - the ones with the reddish 'bare' looking legs. When digging post holes and a trench for plumbing my husband and I found them.

Can't help, but...
I can't help with the ID but that is a great find. What a beautiful spider!

I second the prior comments.
This is a really nice image! Definitely a trapdoor spider, but that only narrows it to two families....Thank you for sharing, looking forward to more of your submissions.
