Baldfaced Hornet - worker - Dolichovespula maculata - Female
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Not the best angle but it does show the rear markings. It was a solitary wasp so rather hard to get decent photos. I did get one from the side, but it is not in great focus. I could post it if this shot is not suitable for an ID. Any ID and info etc. would be welcome. Thanks.

Worker bald-faced hornet.
This is a worker of Dolichovespula maculata, the "bald-faced hornet."

I observed one of these yesterday (7-28-05) for the first time. He was on a rhodie in the backyard in Nazareth, Pa. Is this also part of his range?

They are quite widespread. We have a lot of them around here in Oregon.

Thanks
Thanks Eric for the quick response. It was a first sighting for me of this wasp.
