Mirid on Burrobrush - Stittocapsus franseriae

Mirid on Burrobrush - Stittocapsus franseriae
Borrego Springs, San Diego County, California, USA
April 5, 1995
Size: Bl about 8 mm
This plant bug and several others were on Burrobrush (Ambrosia dumosa), aka White Bursage, on the low desert. I've always thought it was a Lygus, but when we tried to key it out, it is too elongate and too long at 8 mm. Bugguide has several mirids that resemble Lygus. This one is something like Bolteria. Am I on the right track? Thanks in advance for any help.

I think it's Stittocapsus franseriae
based on its description and a figure of S. mexicanus in Carvalho.

It occurs in CA and AZ.

Stittocapsus franseriae
Thanks so much for this ID, WonGun. When I saw the species name franseriae, I said, Wow! That's the former genus of Burrobrush, Franseria (now Ambrosia) dumosa. And sure enough, I could get the host plant verified on the AMNH Plant Bug site. I still have dial-up and could not pull up the figure of S. mexicanus, but the description seems to fit. I really appreciate your help with this bug!
