Could be a Zabulon or Hobomok Skipper, not sure without upperside shot

This is a male Zabulon. Note the stand-alone spot on the bottom middle of the HW, the discrete spots near the rear edge of the HW, and the large amount of yellow forward of the bottom spot.

Hobomok's an early flier and should be long gone by late August.

 
I'm figuring you saw more than you shot.
If you remember what this b'fly looked like, you may be able to figure out which one it is from the list of grass skippers here. Have a look and, hopefully, have some fun!

Thanks for the reference page. Only problem is remembering what I saw as I shot a couple species that day.

Based on the page you provided, my memory, and the useful comments from the folks here I believe it to be the Zabulon Skipper.
