Flower Fly - Rhingia nasica - male

Flower Fly - Rhingia nasica - Male
Emmaus, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, USA
August 23, 2008
Size: Under One Inch
Looks like a fly, but appears to be taking nectar from flower.

Rhingia nasica, male (PA)
Note the long "snout".

Pretty sure it's a syrphid
But I'm not familiar with eastern species and can't make out the wing veins. (A thing called a spurious vein makes it a syrphid.) They're also called hover flies and, yes, flower flies. My best guess is that it's in the subfamily Eristalinae, so you may want to browse there. It may be Eumerus. Give a look here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/12620

Oh, and it's a male, as the eyes touch at the top.
