unknown spider (?purse web?) - Ummidia

unknown spider (?purse web?) - Ummidia
anniston, Calhoun County, Alabama, USA
July 19, 2005
Size: body almost 3 cm
Found on an east-facing slope (40% grade) of a mature mixed forest in the morning (0735 CST) crawling through the leaf litter. The specimen had four (4) pale orange bulbous structures on the ventral side of its abdomen.

Trapdoor spider.
Definitely a trapdoor spider in the family Ctenizidae, probably a species of Ummidia, and likely a wandering male. Neat find:-)

Thank you! I just happened upon it this morning while walking through the woods and it seemed to be an interesting creature. I'm not very knowledgeable on arthropods so I found this site to help out and I am impressed! Thanks again.
