Overview Of Family Cicadellidae - Leafhoppers

Leafhoppers, as the name suggests, do just that. They hop or jump from plant to plant or along the ground as their mode of locomotion. They are very interesting, as well as colorful, little critters. Leafhoppers are one of the largest families in the world and per this web site "There are more leafhopper species worldwide than all species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians combined.".

Leafhoppers belong to the Family Cicadellidae. The following is the taxonomic tree leading to Cicadellidae :

NATURE'S BEAUTY NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME! WOW!!

.

Just a suggestion...
Try adding anchors. Then, you wouldn't have to scroll through the whole article.

If you don't know how, read this forum.

Agalliopsis cervina
It might be worth adding Agalliopsis cervina. Its pattern is pretty different from any species currently in the article.

....
Agreed, and done. Thanks!

Aphrodes
This is a great reference, Sam. You might consider adding a thumbnail of one of the Aphrodes with transverse white bands--they're pretty distinctive markings:

....
Done.
Thanks Charley!

Dorydiella kansana
New genus and species recently added here. Great article, BTW.

....
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know!
I'll add it shortly.

....
Done.
New genus Dorydiella added.

....
Add Genus Neoaliturus.

Great!
And now there is a link from Cicadellidae to this article to make it easy to find.

Cool!
Thanks!

Leafhopper overview
Just my non-expert opinion -- My first impression is that this overview provides an easier way for someone who wants to try their own hand in identifying a leafhopper. Easier in that a few representative examples are provided for each genus and one doesn't have to search through pages and pages of photos to find one that looks similar to what one is trying to identify. The links to the corresponding pages in the guide are also handy so that one can then look at all the examples for a particular genus if needed.

Great work, Sam
It's obvious you put a lot of work into this....and you did a great job.

....
Thanks, I appreciate it!

Just look at all...
of those hoppers! Love the color variations in the Genus Coelidia nymphs. Nice work Sam!

Thanks Scott!
I like those nymphs also. I wonder what causes the color variations?

That's probably
something only Dr. Hamilton can answer :^).....Or it could be the host plant???
