Size: 0.66mm
At the limits of the Canon 65mm at 5x (hand held). Found associated with an elm leaf gall , when placed on the leaf it would run back to the gall.

I don't think it is a mite. T
I don't think it is a mite. There is a chance that it just might be a mite, but if I was going to place money I wouldn't say it was a mite. For the most part, Mites don't have external segmentation as seen in this picture, with the exception of some groups. The eriophyids do have regular repeated external segmentation but they are much smaller than this specimen, and you will never photograph them with a hand held camera. I would figure that the appendages near the eyes are antennae.

 
I was hoping
that someone might recognize the arrangement of setae around the head for a clue. The image(s) make it difficult for a conclusion on the anteriormost appendage, it seems that the insertion is behind what appears to be the eye (leg or antenna?).
