Bee Fly - Conophorus

Bee Fly - Conophorus
Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA
July 9, 2005

possibly Conophorus
I learned from Neal Evenhuis that one of the identifying characters for this genus is the slightly swollen, and bristly, antenna. Also, their hair of varying length give this fly a somewhat messy look. Compare also abdomen in images I submitted a few days ago of C. obesulus, and C. fenestratus. Your fly is certainly a different species, but I dare say that Conophorus is probably the genus.

Thanks Hartmut
The identifying features you mentioned are very similar to your flies. I think you're right about it being a Conophorus sp.
