Moth - Harrisina metallica

Moth - Harrisina metallica
southwest of Golden, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA
July 10, 2005

western grapeleaf skeletonizer, Harrisina brillians?
Some images of these show an orange collar as in our eastern species, but some show them as all black. Check out these from UCal .
And Southeastern Arizona says in line 3 here that brillians is a color variant of metallica without the red!

Nice homework
It looks like you hit the nail on the head. Thanks again.

Sure looks like
a male Ctenucha (or pygoctenucha), but not many images available on the western species. Will look forward to the ID of this one. Was there any color on the animal other than that gorgeous Ctenucha blue-black, anywhere?

No other color seen
on this moth other than that shiny black. Also it was a little smaller than the Ctenucha we get in the east.
