fruit fly - Anthrax

fruit fly - Anthrax
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
July 16, 2008
Size: approx. 3/16 inch
The closest I could find in the guide is Picture-winged Fly - Pseudotephritis, but I suspect it's not that.

Moved
Moved from Bee Flies.

I think it may be something closer to this:

Yes, it's a bee fly
but I think a different genus. (Tribe may be correct, however. Check out Anthrax irroratus.)

If you're trying to match your image with others, look at the wings. Also, note that shape of body is probably more important than color and pattern.

Hopefully, an expert will see this and comment. Instead, if nothing happens after a couple weeks, move your post to Bee Flies, and you'll eventually get an answer.

I agree.
I agree with Ron's advice:-) Anthrax is the likely genus, though down there you probably also have Xylocopa carpenter bees, which are the hosts of Xenox tigrinus....
