Another Specimen of Phthiriinae? - Acreophthiria - female

Another Specimen of Phthiriinae? - Acreophthiria - Female
Cottonwood Canyon, near southwest end of Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County, California, USA
April 6, 2008
Photographed on a ray floret of Layia heterotricha, a rare (and delightfully aromatic) annual in the Asteraceae.

As in my previous post, I think this bee fly is in the subfamily Phthiriinae of Bombyliidae. It's about 20 air miles WSW of the Carrizo Plains locale in the previous post. Note the pollen on the thorax and elsewhere, perhaps this is an effective pollinator of the Layia.

not Phthiria
None of the Nearctic Phthiriinae are currently placed in Phthiria. Neacreotrichus might be right, but I can't be sure from a photo.

Had no idea that there is not
Had no idea that there is nothing placed in this genus anymore...Thanks for correcting that!
