Asphondylia auripila

Asphondylia auripila

A long time ago I took a picture of what I assumed was a dried flower on a desert succulent bush. But maybe it could be a gall?

Moved from Asphondylia.

Sure thing
The only creosote bush midge gall that has a name at this point--Asphondylia auripila Felt.

Asphondylia species
Ron Russo's book (1) has 13 Asphondylia named to species that occur on creosote bush. (The other species of Asphondylia have smaller galls of various different configurations. The gall in this photo is definitely A. auripila.)

Named in the past 20 years, I guess...
Gagne (1989) illustrates others, but says that's the only named species. I meant to qualify that statement. Thanks for the correction.

Coooooool
I was just looking at the picture, and I thought I would give it a try for an ID!
