Ovipositor?
Stephen,
Is that an ovipositor on this leafhopper? If so, do you know it the presence or absence is an indicator of a leafhopper's sex? Thanks
Robert

Leafhopper anatomy
Robert, I believe this is the structure leafhoppers use to expel the excess liquid they take in as a part of feeding. I have seen them shoot out many, many droplets and shoot them a relatively large distance. I don't have any leafhopper anatomy references handy, but I do have another photo of two Graphocephala mating, and they both have this structure.

Oh, Well
Thanks for clearing that up. Would you mind recommending some of your "Leafhopper anatomy references?" I have found a few online. Leafhoppers have become a favorite of mine and really want to learn more, rather than just keep matching photos.

http://www.insectsofwestvirginia.net/h/glossary.html
Most of the family-level works listed in my Auchenorrhyncha works consulted pages begin with a discussion of anatomy. I borrowed those from libraries and so don't have copies any more...
