Colias - Colias eurytheme - male

Colias - Colias eurytheme - Male
Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, USA
October 12, 2006
species?

It's one of those minies
That pop up every now and then, with unusually narrow borders - just to drive us nuts. They usually happen during cold weather, but sometimes one turns up in summer.

Moved from Colias.

Thanks, I have trouble differ
Thanks, I have trouble differentiating between the two.

I'm calling it
C. eurytheme because of the orange pigment (especially on the front wings), and because of the wing shape. Sometimes it's really difficult to tell the darn things apart. Seems to me though, that unless you are in a cool moist area, or are near an area of Alfalfa or Clover fields, usually the most common (especially in the west) is going to be the orange one.
