Planthopper 01 - Muirodelphax parvulus - female

Planthopper 01 - Muirodelphax parvulus - Female
Kenner, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, USA
February 15, 2008
I believe this is Delphacodes but I'm not sure about species. Is this image detailed enough for identification to species?

Thanks in advance!

Muirodelphax parvulus
You are right - this species is still placed in Delphacodes; the MS transferring it to Muirodelphax is still "in the works."

Although the photo is a bit fuzzy, you can see the widely spaced sensory pits on the antenna that are characteristic of this genus. The narrow head and dark margins on the female abdomen are characteristic of the species, which is a common one on the plains.
