Hairy Flower Scarab - Trichiotinus assimilis

Hairy Flower Scarab - Trichiotinus assimilis
West Fork Black River, Apache County, Arizona, USA
August 5, 2008
Trichiotinus: can anyone confirm assimilis or piger? Male/female? I have other images.

Moved
Moved from Trichiotinus piger.

T. assimilis
is the only species that gets into AZ (very upper right corner of Apache Co.). This is based on Howden's 1968 review of the trichiines of North and Central America.

Besides, the smooth second and forth elytral intervals here also support assimilis :-)

Piger
According to the range maps on the Trichiotinus info page, T. piger is the only one in your area. T. assimilis is strictly Eastern

Philip's range map
lists assimilis for norther AZ, piger for the SE corner of AZ. This should then be assimilis

Between You and Me
I'm not clear on the identification but I'm relying on this: http://bugguide.net/node/view/253713
